Birth Support
mamashanti :: birth support
Please Note, so I can devote energy to my Prenatal Yoga & BirthSkills programs for the remainder of 2010 I am taking a break from attending births. If you are hoping to engage a birth attendant, I can offer referrals to a network of amazingly gifted doulas, midwives and student midwives. xx Nina
For me, birth support starts from our first point of contact. I offer birth support by honouring your choices; helping with resources; encouraging you to trust your own birthing wisdom. My prenatal yoga teaching is deeply informed by my own experience of pregnancy and birth; and most recently by my training and work as a birth attendant.
A birth attendant compliments your birthing team by offering continuity of support to you wherever you choose to birth, be it in your home, maternity hospital or birthing centre. When you choose to engage me as your birth attendant, you will gift yourself with the support of a compassionate, resourceful and experienced woman by your side, honouring your journey through childbirth into parenthood.
If youre statistically minded, studies have shown continuous presence of a birth attendant in labour reduces ~
:: use of analgesia by 35%
:: oxytocin augmentation by 71%
:: use of forceps by 57%
:: cesarean sections by 51%
:: length of labour by an average of 98 minute

The typical mamashanti birth support package includes:
:: preliminary meeting of around one hour
:: two prelabour meetings with you and your partner of around two hours, usually at your place where we can take the time to get to know one another; talk through your concerns about birth and how we can best work together; and look at preparing your birth plan
:: attend the birth of your child and stay until you are all well settled in
:: post birth visit when you’re ready - around two hours to talk through your birth experience
From the time you engage mamashanti you can expect lots and lots of loving support with me, Nina on call round the clock via phone and email; access to my extensive library and reduced cost to attend my prenatal yoga classes & active birth prenatal yoga for partners workshops.
There can be no greater honour than to be in the presence of a birthing woman. To be a trusted member of her inner circle of loving support is one of my lifes greatest blessings. From the birth of my niece twelve years ago to the birth of my sweet son and every birth I have assisted, it has been clear to me that it is at this time the entire Universe turns its attention to the glorious moment of bringing new life in to the world. Blessings for your journey and for the safe arrival of each child who bravely steps forward to enter our world.
xx Nina
